A 79-year-old woman suffered a back injury after driving her car 300 feet over the side of Malibu Canyon Road on Sunday afternoon, according to David Katz, captain of the Malibu Search and Rescue Team (SAR).

Crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and SAR responded to the call and helped get the victim airlifted from the canyon to UCLA hospital after her Lexus SUV went plummeting into the canyon.

The rescue happened on the same day SAR had been doing rappel training in Malibu Creek State Park.

Wow, we used to drive down that road when we visit Malibu from Calabasas. I like Kanaan Dume Rd. a little better though, because there are more two lane roads, and passing lanes which makes it a little safer. It takes a little longer to go to Kanaan, but better safe than sorry. You really have to be careful driving down ANY canyon road, because usually it is either speed, or someone passing you, that causes accidents. Hope she will be ok.
