UPDATE: As of 4 p.m., the light at the intersection of Temescal and Pacific Coast Highway was up and running once again after being out of order for most of Friday. The cause of the outage has not been released by authorities.

A signal failure at the intersection of Temescal Canyon Road and the Pacific Coast Highway and backed up traffic in both directions to Malibu and Santa Monica on Friday.

As of 12:40 p.m., a maintenance crew was still working to repair the signal, but it was not clear when it would be functioning again, according to a California Department of Transportation employee. Traffic officers were at the intersection directing traffic.

Westbound traffic on PCH was backed up as far as Santa Monica State Beach and eastbound traffic was backed up into Malibu through Las Flores Canyon Road.

The signal failure was caused by damage between the light and its power source, according to the Caltrans employee, although he did not know the cause of the damage.
