Pepperdine University has named a new chaplain: Sara Barton, an experienced campus minister who has worked at Rochester College.
As university chaplain, Barton will coordinate campus-wide worship services and provide spiritual guidance to students, faculty and staff. Barton will also play a key role in Pepperdine's newly created Spiritual Life Committee, where representatives from the university's five schools will meet regularly to shape the vision of spiritual life and coordinate spiritual activities.
Barton has more than 15 years of ministerial experience, formerly serving as assistant professor of religion at Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Barton has served as a campus minister at Rochester College and as a small groups minister at the Rochester Church of Christ in Michigan. She also spent eight years as a missionary in Uganda before coming to Rochester College.
"Sara brings a sense of grace and goodness to her new role. Combined with her keen intellect and experiences as a person of deep faith, she will add measurably to campus life and the lives of our students," said Pepperdine University President Andrew Benton.
Barton received her bachelor's degree in English from Harding University, her master's degree in spiritual formation and leadership from Spring Arbor University and is currently pursuing a doctor of ministry degree at Lipscomb University.
